12-Dec-11 It's not about a truck; it is about a mindset


Seven directors of the DuBois Area School District decided last week to spend some $32,000 on a truck and snowplow, to clear snow from the area around Penfield Elementary School and be used for unspecified other tasks.  Two objected. Newly-elected Roland Bechtel of Treasure Lake and Patty Fish of Reynoldsville have tea party affiliations, and campaigned on a platform of fiscal restraint and responsibility.

The name reflected a general agreement that the group wanted to broaden their interests beyond just taxes.

 The Tea Party movement let its voice be heard Saturday in Harrisburg.


Participants marched from City Island to the state Capitol steps chanting "Can you hear us now?" They carried signs reading, "Less Government Restore the Public" and "Strike Three Get Out." They waved American flags and yellow flags with the slogan, "Don't Tread on Me."

A group of local citizens from Jefferson, Clearfield and Elk counties participated in the Tea Party Taxpayers protest march in Washington, D.C., last Saturday. Clara Avenali of Kane organized three charter buses which carried more than 100 people to the march.
